Hello 2019, I am glad you are here! The start of a new year comes with a thrilling burst of energy, ambitions, and goals. It’s exciting to welcome a fresh start and dive deep into brainstorming mode to surface with what might be your best ideas yet. But this year, I didn’t take that dive. Instead, I have decided this will be the year that I bring to life an idea, dream, and project close to my heart. For the past three years, I have been sitting on (what I hope is) my best idea yet, and my goal is to make 2019 the year it comes to life! But don’t worry this isn’t the only exciting project that I will be working on this year. We have some big things planned for you this year – here are my top four that I can’t wait to share with you.
  1. We are going to welcome in the spring with our 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt For The Dogs! Last year we had over 50 treat sniffing hounds cracking open egg after egg at The Some Streat Food Park – and we hope to see you there this year!
  2. Full House Limited Edition Posters, featuring Alamo Square’s notorious Painted Ladies, your pup can be featured on his/her very own Full House Poster!
  3. This year we have a hefty goal for The Fido 500 with a fundraising goal of $1,000! Keep your eyes and ears peeled in the fall for more details about the 2019 Fido 500 – San Francisco’s only dog race and fundraiser.
  4. And lastly my biggest project and goal for 2019 – The +Hound! In the world of dog training, there are two main thoughts of training, the positive way, and the aversive way, or as I like to call it the Caesar Millan way. In the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s as the dog population in American households increased, Caesar Millan was the only known name when it came to correcting your dog’s undesired behaviors. Dominance and prong collar was the norm and remains that way for many. But it’s not the only way, scientist and animal trainers across the world were using this new positive way of training, also known as Clicker Training, at zoos and aquariums, but it didn’t hit mainstream media until the late ’90s, leaving people to trust the only the name they knew. Fast forward to 2019 where I see far too many dog owners using a prong collar, yanking, yelling and forcing their dogs into fear-based training. If this is you, please don’t run and hide. I am not here to shame, guilt or blame you, instead, I want to help educate you. And that is where The +Hound will come into play. By the end of 2019 (and every one of you can hold me accountable to this) my goal is to have a trusted resource where you can learn all about the world of positive dog training. To take a pledge never to use aversive tools like prong collars on your dog. And a shop where you can purchase products to help spread the word about the positive dog training world!
It’s going to be a busy year, and I am excited to have you along for the ride!
