I have a question for you, as the New Year rang in, did you set fitness goals for yourself? Did you happen to include your pup in them?

Well, here we are only three weeks into 2018 and if you followed my path and already flopped on your goals, then I hope this Fitness With Your Pup post will give you a little motivational boost.

Not only do I hope to help you and your pup with a healthier 2018, but I also want to motivate myself. So, I figured, if I write this post and put it out into the world, then I have you, my readers, to help hold me accountable.

So, what do you say, are you ready to grab your pup and make some changes?

Great! Let’s dive in!

With planning my goals for 2018, I came across something that really struck me and I want to share it with you. Now it’s not a workout but instead a mind shift. A mind shift to Raise Your Standards. Yes, you read that right, we need raise our standards.

Have you ever wondered how others are so motivated to go to the gym, even when it’s cold, rainy and dark outside? Y.U.C.K!

Or how others are always on top of their game doing things that you would find impossible. We’ll it’s not impossible; you just need to raise your standards.

Make this a MUST for you and your pup!

We all know that physical activity for humans is necessary to maintain a healthy body. But physical activity for you pup goes far beyond just a great figure. Physical activity can help with mental sharpness along with decreased anxiety and depression.

So, are you ready to make this a MUST for you and your pup?

I am glad you all in!

I am going to walk you through my old routine, which I aim to revive. No equipment is necessary and no expensive gym bills either. But, you will be strengthening your muscles along with the bond between your and your pup.

My Exercise Routine

I would start with a basic walk; I quickly learned that Mini, my pup, was a much better running partner after she had fully relieved herself. Once that business was out of the way, I stepped up the pace to a jog, while keeping Mini on a short leash and verbally rewarding her for staying by my side. She picked this up pretty quickly.

I had an endpoint in mind with a large grassy field and plenty of benches to use for my workout. But along the way I would engage Mini with some actions like, ‘Walk The Plank’, where she would jump up on a bench and walk it as if walking the plank. Or I would practice ‘Wait’, cuing her to stop and wait by my side. Mixing in a few of these actions, helps keep her brain sharp and attentive.

After about a mile of so of running, I would find a bench and set-up shop. This is where you can get a little creative and create your personal workout. But as an example, this is a typically routine for me.

Step 1– I would cue Mini ‘Up’ on top the bench and have her sit and stay, while I started off with squats

Step 2– Then I would switch to the cue for Mini, asking her ‘Paw’ and switching between right and left paws, is one of her favorites. I would do this a few time then have her resume her sit-stay, while I switched to Triceps Dips.

Step 3– I would repeat this back and forth workout between Mini and me until I did about three reps of 3-4 different workouts. Then back to the trail to finish our jog back home.

If you’re stuck on some basis workouts that you can do without equipment, I put together a great list. Each listed exercise will link to a demo video.

Getting into a grove does take patience with your pup, but most importantly raise your standards to get it done! You and pup can do it!

And, don’t forget to reward yourself and your pup!
