Fall Activities To Do With Your Pet

The hot summer temperatures have subsided, and the winter chill is still weeks away. That means it’s the best time of year to get outdoors with your furry friend. And in San Francisco,
one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country, that means it’s time to put your pup on a leash and head out to enjoy your favorite fall activities. Here are some of the best fall activities to enjoy with your pet in and around beautiful San Francisco.

Don’t Miss DogFest Bay Area

The Bay Area is known for hosting some of the country’s best outdoor festivals, and for pet owners, DogFest is certainly one of them. DogFest Bay Area 2019 will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This community-based festival includes a dog walk through Jack London Square, a wine and beer garden, crafts for people and pets, pet photos and delicious eats for animals and humans alike. There’s no better place to celebrate fall with your favorite sidekick.

Watch or Participate in Barktoberfest

It may be difficult to choose between all of the pet-friendly fall events happening on the weekend of Oct. 26. In addition to DogFest 2019 in Oakland, visitors can head to Point Isabel Dog Park in Richmond for Barktoberfest. This family- and pet-friendly event features the
famous annual dog costume contest, including categories for dogs of all sizes, dog-and-owner
combinations, and more. Barktoberfest is free, and the costume parade takes place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parking is limited, so be sure to arrive early.

Pick the Perfect Pumpkin

It’s no secret that traditional fall activities are best enjoyed with your furry friend by your side.
The Bay Area provides a number of pumpkin patches that are pet-friendly, so you can pick the perfect fall decorations with your pooch. Farmer John’s Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay is not only dog-friendly, but the owners claim they’ve had parrot and cat visitors, too. Moore Pumpkin Patch in Dublin also welcomes on-leash dogs.

Show Off in the Los Gatos Halloween Pet & Kids Parade

Sereno Group (Los Gatos) invites you to feel like a kid again at the Los Gatos Halloween Pet & Kids Parade. Dress your pet and your family, if you please — in a costume and head down to N. Santa Cruz Ave. Here, you can trick-or-treat at participating restaurants and shops, which will offer special treats for you and your pet. A $10-per-family event fee is donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). There’s a 2:45 p.m. check-in time at 214 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road, and a 4 p.m. ceremony to show off costumes at The Palms. The Los Gatos Halloween Pet & Kids Parade runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

Throw a Tailgating Party With Your Pup

College and professional football seasons are in full swing, and outdoor tailgating parties are finally a comfortable temperature for pets. Bring your pup to your next tailgating event and let it enjoy all of the extra attention — and maybe a grilled hot dog or two. Encourage other friends to bring pets as well to enjoy an exciting play date. Tailgating is a perfect way to get outdoors and together with other pets before temperatures get too cold.

Dance at the Concert for Canines

There’s no better way to close fall than dancing the night away with your furry friend by your side. The sixth annual Concert for Canines will take place in Pleasant Hill on Nov. 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Back Forty Texas BBQ. Eat plenty of barbecue, indulge in delicious drinks and dance away while supporting the East Bay Animal Rescue & Refuge. Bob Kinney, Living Daylites and California Cowboys will perform for just a small $10 donation at the door.

These events and activities are just a few of the many you can enjoy in the Bay Area this fall. You and your pup can also go apple picking at an orchard, take a hike, venture out on a road trip or enjoy a long list of other memorable autumn activities. We suggest you grab a leash and have some outdoor fun with your furry friend this fall.
